recLife Chaplain Ministry
The recLife Chaplain Ministry at Riverland Hills is one of the most important components of the recLife ministry. recLife chaplains partner with coaches to build relationships and provide spiritual leadership for participants in our recLife leagues. The chaplain roles are typically filled by men who do not participate on the teams, but who enjoy the athletic environment and are driven by their passion to lead other men into more meaningful and purposeful relationships with Christ.
Build relationships
The foundation of all ministries is relationships. The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) is a call for us to love God and to love our neighbors. Rather than see the players as resources or as a constituency, see them each as people whom the Lord has given you to love, to nurture and to develop. –FCA website
Disciple teams…“shepherd their flock”
I define spiritual leadership as knowing where God wants people to be and taking the initiative to use God's methods to get them there in reliance on God's power. The answer to where God wants people to be is in a spiritual condition and in a lifestyle that displays his glory and honors his name. Therefore, the goal of spiritual leadership is that people come to know God and to glorify him in all that they do. –John Piper
Cultivate an environment of authenticity, openness, and confidence
When you share your soul, you let a person in to see what is really there. You do not conceal your true feelings about things. A shared soul is a shared passion or a shared fear or a shared guilt or a shared longing or a shared joy. Where the gospel flourishes, people share their own souls—their joy and guilt and fear and longing and passion. –John Piper
Introduce Jesus to men who may not know him
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 28:19-20. |
