If you’ve always wanted to become a runner or need a good excuse to take up fitness walking, now’s your chance! Riverland Hills is offering a 12-week program that combines a weekly Bible study with group training sessions to prepare you to run a 5k (3.1 mile), a 10k (6.2 mile) or a half marathon road race. Walkers will train to walk a 5k event. The program runs February 14 through May 14.
The 30-minute Bible study meets at RHBC on Sundays at 6 p.m., followed by a group run. 30-minute running/fitness instruction classes meet Tuesdays at 6 p.m., followed by a group run. The group meets on Thursdays at 6 p.m. for an additional group run.
The 5k and 10k program is targeted to beginners—absolutely no experience is required. Adults and children 7th grade and above are invited to participate. (Youth must attend with a participating adult.) The $70 program fee for the 5k and 10k includes a book, a Run for God technical shirt, and an entry fee for the Get in the Pink 5k and 10k on May 7.
5k and 10k alumni can register for the program at a discounted rate of $30, with the option to purchase a new Run for God shirt.
Half marathon participants will run the Governor's Cup Half Marathon on May 14 and should be able to complete a distance of seven to eight miles before beginning the program. A training schedule that begins in August will be provided for half marathoners who want to get a head start. The registration fee for half marathoners is $70, which includes entry into the race and a Run for God technical T-shirt.

• Participants will complete the Get in the Pink event on Saturday, May 7 or the Governor's Cup Half Marathon on Saturday, May 14.
5K Program for Walkers
• Designed for new and experienced walkers, this 12-week program is held at the same time as the Run for God program. Participants gradually increase their mileage slowly in order to prepare to walk a 5k (3.1 mile) event.
Half Marathon Program
• This program is designed for experienced runners who are already running three to four times a week and can complete a long run of seven to eight miles. To help participants who need a head start on their training, we provide a training schedule that begins in August before the class officially begins. Participants will meet at the church with the 10k group on Sundays. They will meet and run separately on Tuesdays at Irmo Town Park at 6 p.m., on Thursday nights at 6 p.m. at Riverfront Park, and on Saturday mornings at 7 a.m. at the Irmo side of Lake Murray Dam. Participants do not have to attend all training sessions, but are encouraged to complete at least three weekly workouts.

We have informal walking and running groups that continue meeting during the "off" season:
Tuesday evenings - Irmo Town Park @ 6:00 p.m.
Thursday evenings - Columbia Riverfront Park @ 6:00 p.m.
Saturday mornings - Lake Murray Dam (Irmo side) @ 7:00 a.m.
There is no charge for joining these groups. It's just an informal gathering of walking/running friends.
